INVOLVEMENT OF THE PEOPLE AND APPLICATION OF THE PRINCIPLES OF CIRCULAR ECONOMY, THE COMPANY'S STRATEGIC LEVERS
Tecnostrutture, keeping its mission to ensure certain time and cost through a safe, efficient and sustainable system, continued to invest also in 2022 to improve and innovate its structural solutions. To transparently tell the story of its environmental, social and governance achievements, also this year, the company voluntarily prepared again this year the Sustainability Report 2022, while also obtaining a third-party verification.
Tecnostrutture's journey towards a greater sustainability began in 2004 with the design of the first beam with a pure brick base with the aspiration of contributing to the ecological transition of the construction industry. Since then, the company based in Noventa di Piave has taken many steps forward, including assessing the impacts of its products through their life cycle analysis (LCA) and communicating impacts through third-party verified environmental declaration. A key milestone in this journey was the preparation of the first sustainability report which covered the year 2021.
The value of this journey was recognized also through the awarding of the Mirna Terenzani prize in December 2022 to Giulia Daniele, administrator in Tecnostrutture. This award recognizes the women in the GBC Italia community who are involved at the forefront of innovative sustainable building projects. What has made this achievement possible is the dedication of all the people at Tecnostrutture in pursuing the path towards sustainability, revolutionizing the corporate culture and implementing activities in favor of local communities.
THE 3 PRIORITIES OF TECNOSTRUTTURE
The sustainability report represents the tool for transparently sharing the path taken by the company to contribute to a more sustainable present and future for future generations as well. The preparation of the report by the intercompany committee dedicated to sustainability, represents an important process of analysis which is necessary to define objectives and to verify what has been achieved in the last 12 months.
These are the three sustainability macro-themes that Tecnostrutture wants to prioritize for the coming years.
It is evident how sustainability and innovation have once again solidified their 2022’s business strategy. Tecnostrutture has been tending to the forefront for years, it was founded with the goal of industrialization of the construction industry. Even at that time, its vision was forward-looking compared to the Italian context and this is what makes it competitive in international markets.
STATEMENT OF GIULIA DANIELE, MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS TECNOSTRUTTURE
"Expressing our priorities according to environmental, social and governance aspects simplifies our understanding of interconnected complex processes. For example, people and the environment are both central to our goal of creating products with a lighter footprint: thus, since 2019 our two guiding references have been the involvement of all resources and the measurement of impacts along the life cycle through the LCA methodology.
This scientific method of measuring environmental impacts has become a driver for innovation, eco-efficiency, and adoption of circular economy practices, as well as a pool of information from which to draw for communication activities based on reliable and verifiable data. This approach has led, for example, to the 2022 activities which focused on analyzing and improving the supply chain and the end-of-life of our products, the most environmentally impactful moments, upon which we have the most room for improvement.
The Sustainability Committee is another example of this entanglement: a contact person for each department allows us to spread the guidelines of the cultural change which take place in the company. The Steering Committee, which is composed of senior scientific figures on the topics of green building, human resources, and civil engineering, also supports us in defining strategic choices in sustainability. The involvement of people has thus initiated a cultural change based on transparency, accountability, and activities for the benefit of local communities.
This is the path we have taken and on which we continue with determination, consolidating the activities we have started and aiming to make them fully integrated practices in the corporate culture and processes."
THE STATEMENT OF PROFESSOR CHIARA CALDERINI, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF STUDIES OF GENOA, MEMBER OF TECNOSTRUTTURE’S STEERING COMMITTEE
"Tecnostrutture was founded with the goal of industrialization of construction. Today a new and crucial challenge lies in its path: reducing the end-of-life impact of its products. A graduation thesis was carried out in 2022 in collaboration with the Athenaeum of the University of Genoa, with the aim of conceptualizing a construction system according to the principles of Design for Disassembly, which include taking the deconstruction phase into account right from the design stage.
The reuse of components is the key to triggering a significant change in this area. This method lays the foundation for a production system more in line with the principles of the circular economy and the concept of product as a service, in which those who build will be able to have more control over the end of life of their products."
